Gregory Paveza, Retired Dean and Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in social work and public health.
Dr. Paveza started in social work and naturally progressed to clinical work after several years in the mental health system. He first earned a Bachelor of Arts from Lewis University in 1969, and received a Master of Social Work from the University of Hawaii in 1973. Following this, he received a PhD from the University of Illinois in 1986. Throughout his academic pursuits, he leaned into the field of public health with emphasis on geriatrics and gerontology. Dr. Paveza taught and directed programs and divisions for many years at the University of South Florida. Prior to retirement, he served as the Dean of the School of Health and Human Services at the Southern Connecticut State University.
Dr. Paveza considers his two years as faculty senate president at the University of South Florida as one of his favorite career highlights as it solidified making the decision to move forward as an academic administrator. In this space, he got a chance to work with senior administrators and engage in some significant decision making with important issues that the university was facing at the time. Serving as the first faculty member of the board of trustees has been another highlight. Since 2018, Dr. Paveza has provided his skills and expertise in the field as a consultant with Thunderbird Higher Education Consulting. He maintains professional affiliation with the National Association of Social Workers.
