Bharathi P. Sudarsanam, Professor of Biology at Labette Community College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biology, anatomy and physiology and microbiology.
With 36 years of teaching experience at Labette Community College, Dr. Sudarsanam shows no signs of stopping as her job is her passion. She joined the university in the early 1970s after being chosen to study abroad through the Lutheran World Federation. When she first started, she taught biological and environmental sciences to 75 students in a class. After many years of developing the department alongside her husband, John, the department grew to have another lab, smaller class sizes, and additional faculty. The college presented her with the first Distinguished Faculty Award in the early 1990s.
Dr. Sudarsanam earned a master’s degree from Andhra University and a Ph.D. in anatomy, physiology and cell biology at the University of Kansas in 1980. She continued with postdoctoral work in neurosciences at the University of Oregon. She maintains professional affiliation with the American Institute of Biological Sciences, the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society and the Lion’s Club. Dr. Sudarsanam loves her job more than anything and endeavors to continue working for as long as she can. She expects to cut down some time on teaching to spend time researching and with family.
