John M. Snyder, PhD, travel company executive and educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives and Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in environmental and economic development and impact.
Known by peers, colleagues and friends as an explorer, Dr. Snyder has met with success over the last five decades by doing just that: exploring. His devotion to his work as the president and founder of Strategic Studies Inc. means that he delivers on matters of sustainable tourism by utilizing a skillset he has developed from his real-life experiences. In his career, Dr. Snyder has held impactful roles in his field including director of development analysis for URS Engineers, senior resource analyst for ABT Associates, vice president of Oblinger Smith Corporation, economic developer for the City Development Department of Kansas City, MO, and economic research associate for the College of Natural Resources. His expertise in his field afforded him many opportunities to take on professional endeavors outside of his full-time roles. Dr. Snyder was an advisor for the National Geographic Society, a senior advisor for the leisure and hospitality industry for Leeds Business College, co-founder of Ecotourism International, director of environmental policy and management at the University of Denver, president of Glacier Bay Outfitters, senior advisor for special family recreation in Denver, CO, and economic advisor to the Treasurer and Governor of Denver, CO. Dr. Snyder is also the author or co-author of several books including “Prospects for Polar Tourism,” “Polar Tourism: The Sustainability Challenge,” and “Arctic Marine Shipping Assessment; Arctic Sea Ice Thickness, Past, Present, and Future.”
Dr. Snyder served his country as a first lieutenant of military intelligence for the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1972. After concluding his military tenure, he was drawn to the environmental field as inspired by his interest in the outdoors and natural resources. To prepare for what would become a very successful career in his field, he pursued and completed his education. Dr. Snyder earned a Bachelor of Arts from Franklin & Marshall College in 1968 and a Master of Science from Colorado State University in 1974. Committed to his continued education and professional development, he returned to Colorado State University and received a PhD in 1982. He also completed a postdoctoral program in planning and design at Harvard University. Dr. Snyder is a fellow of the Explorers Club of New York and a member of the American Legion, Colorado Woodworkers Guild and the Denver Zoological Foundation. In recognition of his professional excellence, Dr. Snyder was the recipient of a Who’s Who Lifetime Achievers Award. He was also honored by Phi Kappa Phi Scholastic Honor Society, Xi Sigma Pi Forest Resources Honor Society, and the Critical Issues Honors Program at Yale University. As he looks to the future, Dr. Snyder intends to continue in his impactful work while taking on new opportunities to share his expertise.
