Gokarna Gharti-Chhetri, Professor II at Palm Beach State College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biology, microbiology and science education.
Dr. Gharti-Chhetri became involved in his profession because he was the first to get a formal education in his family, and started teaching in the village school and wherever there was an opportunity to teach. He did some volunteer teaching in Nepal after earning a Bachelor of Science in agriculture from the University of Udaipur in 1974. He later earned a Master of Science in crop physiology and management from the University of the Philippines at Los Banos in 1985 and a Master of Science in molecular cell biology from Vrijie Universiteit Brussels in 1988. He also received a PhD in plant molecular cell biology at the Belgium-based institution. In 2010, Dr. Gharti-Chhetri joined the faculty at Palm Beach State College, becoming a full professor of biology, microbiology and environmental science in 2014.
Prior to working in his current institution, Dr. Gharti-Chhetri conducted researched at the University of Gothenburg, served as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Florida. Prior to relocating to the US, he was the CEO of the Council for Technical Education & Vocational Training in Nepal and an associate professor in plant breeding and biotechnology at Tribhuvan University. In his career, he has received a number of accolades highlighting his work. These include the National Excellence Award on Teaching and Learning, Excellence Awards from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development, a Gold Medal PhD from the King of Nepal and various grants. Furthermore, Dr. Gharti-Chhetri has presented at numerous conferences and contributed various articles to professional journals and publications.
