Highly regarded in the field of social research for his work tracking the changes of human motivation in a quantitative way, Dr. Inglehart has built a legacy around his robust and stimulating ideas. He is marked with having created the World Values Survey (WVS), a global research project that explores people’s values and beliefs, how they change over time and what social and political impact they have. Since 1981, a worldwide network of social scientists have conducted representative national surveys as part of WVS in almost 100 countries. To date, there has been enough data collected to understand in much greater detail the trends on what, how and where cultural changes are occurring. His high-level findings and takeaways can be found in a book he authored entitled “Cultural Evolution: People’s Motivations are Changing and Reshaping the World.” Because of the revolutionary and expansive work he has done, Dr. Inglehart is considered an expert in modernization and cultural change. He has since turned his work in this area over to younger professionals who are emerging in this space.
Today, Dr. Inglehart finds success in his role as program director for the Institute for Social Research and professor of political science at the University of Michigan.
