Destined to be a teacher from a formative age, Ms. Kilpatrick was inspired by her great-grandmother, who was also a teacher and taught Ms. Kilpatrick how to read and write. After graduating from high school, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education at the University of Sioux Falls in 1977. While working toward her bachelor’s degree, she served as a preschool teacher at the First Christian Church of Cheyenne, WI, from 1975 to 1977. Soon thereafter, she was a teacher at the Keith County Schools in Ogallala, NE, from 1977 to 1981. Since 1981, she has been a profound teacher in the Converse County School District #1 in Douglas, WY, where she also served as chairman of the NCA School Improvement Steering Committee from 2004 to 2015.
During her tenure at Converse County School District #1, Ms. Kilpatrick received a Master of Arts in education from Lesley University in 1992. Civically involved as well, she has been a Sunday school teacher and church pianist at the Trinity Baptist Church in Douglas since 1983. Likewise, she briefly acted as a community education teacher at Eastern Wyoming College between 2003 and 2006. A member of the Young Poets of America, she cites her tenure spent in education to be the ultimate highlight of her life. She feels grateful to have witnessed her students grow for sometimes five years in a row, and she has been privileged to get to know their families and extended families. As a testament to her success, Ms. Kilpatrick was honored with the Peabody Emerging Leaders in Education Award. Impressively, she was also highlighted in the 60th and 61st editions of Who’s Who in America and was named a Lifetime Achiever in 2018.
Married to Roy Alan Kilpatrick since 1982, Ms. Kilpatrick is the proud mother of three children: Matthias Lee, Jason David and Nathan Roy. In her spare time, she enjoys quilting, photography, teaching piano lessons and scrapbooking.
