Roger Rogalin, Principal at Packanack Elementary School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in school administration.
Mr. Rogalin did not grow up thinking that he wanted to be a textbook publisher or educator and initially pursued a career in medicine. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Fairfield University in 1971, worked in hospitals as premed student, and discovered that his unyielding empathy for patients would transfer well to a career in education. Mr. Rogalin earned an Education Specialist degree, from Seton Hall University in 1971 and worked as a science teacher for Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, NJ, from 1971 to 1974 before entering publishing. His love for biology translated into his first book, “Modern Biology,” published in 1977. Mr. Rogalin found that he loved publishing as it combined written language, government and marketing. He enjoyed every facet of publishing for 30 years, working in roles such as editor-in-chief of D.C. Heath & Co., a division of Raytheon, in Lexington, MA, vice president of the school division of Association American Publishers and president of Macmillan-McGraw-Hill, McGraw-Hill Cos., in New York City.
Mr. Rogalin is proud that he has performed his job with integrity and that he always treated people with respect due to the core beliefs that his father instilled in him. The accomplishment that he is proudest of is when he worked with the Association of American Publishers, he lead the school division (K-12) and championed an initiative in California that allowed for more textbooks for students. When he worked at McGraw-Hill, he had the number one elementary and language art program and he had a significant hand in that as publisher. He also had the number one social studies program, elementary math program and high school algebra program. Mr. Rogalin currently serves as the principal of Packanack Elementary School and sees himself continuing this occupation as well as serving as a management consultant to school administrators such as principals and superintendents.
