Born in Olyphant, PA, Dr. Pysh has dedicated his career to the pursuit of neurology, specifically accomplishing significant research in synaptic transmission and brain development. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Wayne State University in 1958 before travelling halfway across the country to Chicago, earning a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1962 and a Doctor of Philosophy in neuroanatomy from Northwestern University in 1967. He remained with Northwestern University for 20 years, serving as an instructor, associate professor, acting chairman of cell biology and anatomy and a resident physician in neurology from 1966 to 1986. Dr. Pysh then took his talents to Michigan State University where he has remained for the remainder of his career and has attained emeritus status in 2008.

Dr. Pysh was the founding director of Michigan State University’s neurology residency program and a founding member of the department of neurology. He has also been a grant referee for the National Science Foundation in Washington since 1974, a frequent CME neurology speaker in the field and has contributed numerous articles to professional journals and reviewed manuscripts for various organizations. Furthermore, Dr. Pysh is a fellow of the American College of Neuropsychiatrists, the American Neurological Association and holds membership with the American Association for the Advancement of Science. As a testament to his success, Dr. Pysh has been lauded with the Teaching Award from Northwestern University, multiple MSU Awards, and has been featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who in the World.
