Jonathan Mark Harris, PhD, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in higher education.

Driven by an interest in the interrelationship of economic and social issues, Dr. Harris has been providing a new perspective to ecological realities for more than 27 years at Tufts Institute. Notably, in his tenure with the university, he has served as a senior research associate for its global development and environment institute, as well as an adjunct associate professor for the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. While in these roles, Dr. Harris has found continued success in his industry as a board member for the U.S. Society for Ecological Economics and member of the International Society of Ecological Economics. In addition, he has authored “Environmental and Resource Economics: A Contemporary Approach,” as well as co-authored “Macroeconomics in Context,” and co-edited “Twentieth Century Macroeconomics: Responding to the Climate Challenge.” In recognition of his professional excellence in his career, Dr. Harris earned a Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award.

Harris, Jonathan 4117744_4253989 TP bookDr. Harris became involved in his profession because when he was a student at Harvard University, he was inspired by an economist by the name of John Galbraith. He took his class and found his approach to be a broad economic analysis including social and environmental issues. To prepare for his career, Dr. Harris earned a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University in 1971, followed by a Master of Arts and PhD from Boston University in 1981 and 1988. He began his career as an instructor at Regis College, where he remained for one year before taking on assistant professorships with Merrimack College and Boston University. In 1991, he stepped into an opportunity with Tufts Institute, where he has remained ever since. As he looks to the future, Dr. Harris intends to continue in his tremendous work reconciling economic analysis and ecological reality while taking on new opportunities in his field.
