William Pratt, Professor of English Emeritus at Miami University of Ohio, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in modern literature and poetry.

Intrigued by the written word at an early age, Dr. Pratt followed his interest in his academic studies, first receiving a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oklahoma in 1949. He continued at Vanderbilt University, receiving a Master of Arts in 1951 and continuing his studies as a Rotary International fellow at the University of Glasgow from 1951 to 1952. In 1957, he earned a PhD at Vanderbilt University. Early in his career, Dr. Pratt began teaching as an instructor of English at Vanderbilt University. In 1957, he joined the faculty at Miami University as an instructor of English. He remained at the institution for the remainder of his career, becoming an assistant professor in 1959, an associate professor in 1964 and a full professor in 1968. In 1998, Dr. Pratt retired and received the honorable professor emeritus title on behalf of his work and contributions.

In addition to this work, Dr. Pratt has lectured on modern literature at the Lifelong Learning at Vanderbilt, and served as a writer-in-residence at the Tyrone Guthrie Center in Ireland in 1996 and 1992. He has lectured at the Yeats International Summer School in Ireland, and served as a Fulbright-Hays Lecturer and professor of American literature at the University College of Dublin. While matriculating in his own academic pursuits, Dr. Pratt served in the US Naval Reserve from 1953 to 1955, achieving the rank of lieutenant. He served as the President of the Literary Club of Cincinnati from 2015 to 2016, and has been a member of the Ezra Pound International Conference, the International Contemporary Literature and Theatre Society, the University Club, Omicron Delta Kappa, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Phi Beta Kappa.
