Kathleen Kranz, President and Artistic Director at the La Jolla Conservatory of Music, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in teaching piano, music theory and chamber music.
With more than 45 years of professional experience, has been associated with the La Jolla Conservatory of Music since 2003. Prior to obtaining her current role, Dr. Kranz has been a professor and head of the theory department at the California Institute of Music. She was also a member of the faculty and piano instructor at the University of California, San Diego from 1983 to 1987. Earlier in her career, she was music director of Asolo State Theater from 1974 to 1975 and Actor’s Theater of Louisville from 1973 to 1974.
Dr. Kranz began her career as a student at Florida State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in music in 1973. She continued her studies with the school, completing a Master of Music in piano performance in 1977. She then joined the University of California, San Diego, earning a PhD in music theoretical studies in 1985. She is a nationally certified music teacher. Growing up, Dr. Kranz’ family often sought out music and dance classes offered by her church and school and learned to develop her craft through these ventures.
A respected voice in her areas of interest, Dr. Kranz has been an active leader in her community. She is a member of the Music Teachers Association of California, the Music Teachers National Association, and the National Federation of Music Clubs. She has also been affiliated with CAPMT, MTNA, and RCM. She has received many accolades and awards for her musical contributions, including an award from the Florida Federation of Music Clubs, a fellowship with the University of California, and an award from the NAMM Foundation, among many others.
