Suzanne M. Hertel, EdD, MA, MSM has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education, staff development and personnel.
A lifelong learner who turned her passion into her profession, Dr. Hertel has been met with success in her 40-year career. Most notably in her career, she co-developed and implemented open concept classrooms, filmed by I/D/E/A, and established employee training and development programs. When asked of her success, she credits her flexibility and resilience as the reason she has had so many memorable achievements. Her noteworthy roles over the years included personnel administrator for the City of Hartford, training manager for Focus Research Systems Incorporated, assistant professor at the University of Northern Iowa, teacher for the Glastonbury Public Elementary School, and music teacher for public schools in Wethersfield, CT.
Dr. Hertel’s known reputation as a leader in her field afforded her many unique opportunities to make a continued impact. She was involved with the Leadership Educators Program for the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, as well as several international education initiatives in South Africa, Russia and Estonia. In recognition of her professional excellence, Dr. Hertel was the recipient of a Maria Miller Stewart Award from the Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund, an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and a Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award. Today, although retired, she continues to read on industry trends. She also spends her time involved with the American Guild of Organists and the Musical Club of Hartford. In the years to come, Dr. Hertel intends to continue in her one true passion outside of teaching: music.
