Martha Joanne Jongetjes, Retired Mathematics and English Teacher at Independent District #581, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in secondary school education.
From the time she was five years old, Ms. Jongetjes knew she wanted to become a teacher in her professional life. Earning a Bachelor of Arts from Central College soon thereafter, she was hired as a teacher at Chandler High School in Minnesota in 1962, a position she held for three years. Soon thereafter, she served as a teacher at Lake Wilson High School in Minnesota for the following year. Beginning in 1967, she served as a longtime high school mathematics and English teacher for Independent District #581 in Edgerton, MN. Holding the role for 33 fruitful years, she retired at the turn of the century.
A certified teacher in the state of Minnesota, Ms. Jongetjes is also a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton, where she participated in the Coffee Break Bible Study. During her tenure in academia, she also maintained affiliation with the National Education Association, the Minnesota Education Association and the Edgerton Education Association. Likewise, she was a member of such honor societies as Alpha Zeta Mu and Alpha Psi Omega, having also been a member of Mensa International.
Among the notable highlights of her career, Ms. Jongetjes is proudest of her students who went on to achieve professional success with a focus in mathematical studies. She cherishes the memories of teaching young, enlightened students and opening their eyes to the wondrous world of education. Listed in the fourth edition of Who’s Who in American Education, published in 1993, she enjoys reading, knitting, completing puzzles and watching sports in her spare time.
