Daniel Harold Smith, ThB, BA, MEd, EdD, Academic Administrator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in religious leadership and education.
Dr. Smith grew up on a farm and naturally wanted to become a veterinarian after working with so many animals. He went to veterinary school for two years, but when the Korean War began, he joined the Marine Corps. He served for two years, and upon returning, did not feel the call to the field as he once had. Instead, Dr. Smith felt that entering the seminary was his true path because he “wanted to do God’s work.” In this vein, Dr. Smith earned a ThB from Midwest Bible Seminary (now Calvary University) in 1957 before receiving a Bachelor of Arts from Greenville College in 1959. In 1962, he received an Med in counseling from the University of Missouri. Knowing how important education is in continuing to expand and develop, Dr. Smith earned an EdD in administration and leadership from Loyola University.
In 1959, Dr. Smith accepted a position as an instructor at Emmaus Bible College. He remained at the institution until 2014. From 1969 to 1971, he served as the Dean of Education. In the ensuing years, he became the Executive Vice President and then the President. He has served as the college’s Chancellor since 2000. Furthermore, Dr. Smith is a law enforcement chaplain. Since 1959, he has consistently served as a representative of the conference ministry of Emmaus Bible College.
In his career, Dr. Smith has also served as the Chairman of the Evangelical Training Association since 1974. He has also been professionally affiliated with the National Association of Directors of Christian Education and Sigma Theta Delta. Furthermore, Dr. Smith’s career is also noted by his creative works. In 1987, he published How to Lead a Child to Christ, and two years later published God’s Blueprint for your Marriage. The highlight of Dr. Smith’s life is his family. He is most proud of his wife, children, and grandchildren.
