Melinda Jane (Burrill) Korshet, Ph.D., Animal Science Educator at California State Polytechnic University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in animal sciences and higher education.

Dr. Korshet commenced her career as a student at the University of Arizona, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in 1969. Subsequent to earning her degree, she served as a laboratory technician at Bio-Test, Inc., in Northbrook, IL, for one year. Thereafter, she was a teaching assistant at Oregon State University from 1970 to 1974 while pursuing her doctoral studies, thus obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy from the university in 1974. From 1974 to 1976, she completed postdoctoral coursework at the University of Minnesota, where she also served as a research fellow for one year. Relocating to California soon thereafter, she served as an assistant, associate and full professor at California State Polytechnic University from 1976 until her retirement in 2004. During her tenure, she was also the coordinator of graduate studies in the College of Agriculture for seven years.

A former visiting scholar at the Centre International Des Étudiants in France in 1980, Dr. Korshet was also a frequent consultant in her field. She is a certified professional animal scientist in genetics and breeding and has contributed myriad articles to scientific journals. Delving into her profession due to her love for genetics and passion for education, she has also maintained affiliation with several organizations in an effort to remain abreast of developments in the field. She is a member of the American Statistics Association, the Canadian Society of Animal Science, the American Genetics Association and Sigma Xi, where she sat on the board of directors from 1981 to 1988. Likewise, she was the former two-time president of the Southern California chapter of the Richard III Society from 1985 to 1986 and again from 1993 to 1994.

As a testament to her success, Dr. Korshet was given a fellowship for Women in Development from the United States Agency for International Development in 1984. Additionally, she was highlighted in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the West and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
