Achieving immense success in the field of law education, Prof. Nanda is currently the vice provost of the University of Denver, having held this position since 1994. He attended numerous universities, first earning a Master of Arts from the University of the Punjab in 1952 as well as an LLB and an LLM from the University of Delhi in 1955 and 1958, respectively, before immigrating to the United States in 1960. He earned an LLM from Northwestern University in 1962 before completing postgraduate coursework at Yale University where he decided he wanted to pursue a career in law education. Prof. Nanda began teaching at the University of Denver in 1965 and has remained with the institution for the entirety of his career, enjoying the relationships he has formed with his colleagues and students.
Prof. Nanda had initially served as an assistant professor of law with the institution in 1965 before assuming the role of associate professor in 1968. He has been the director of the international legal studies program since 1970, has been named both a Thompson G. Marsh Professor since 1987 and Evans University Professor since 1992 and served as assistant provost in 1993 before advancing to his current role of vice provost. In addition to these roles, Prof. Nanda has been as a consultant for Solar Energy Research Institute and the U.S. Department of Energy as well as a visiting scholar and lecturer of law, sharing his expertise with The John Marshall Law School, the University of Hawaii and the Chicago-Kent College of Law, among other organizations. He has served as an editor for numerous publications and articles including, but not limited to “Climate Change & Environmental Ethics,” “International Environmental Law and Policy for the 21st Century” and “Human Rights and Third World Development.”
Prof. Nanda has received myriad awards such as the 2011 Pride India Award from The International Co-operative Alliance and the 2010 Distinguished Scholarly Achievement Award from the International Academy of Law and Mental Health, among others. He holds membership with organizations including, but not limited to, the International Law Association and the World Jurist Association and has been the United Nations Day Chair with the State of Colorado since 2000. As a testament to his success, Prof. Nanda has earned the coveted Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the West and Who’s Who in the World.
