Leland William Howard, Adjunct Instructor at New Mexico Highlands University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in English literature and higher education.

A former adjunct instructor of introduction to fiction and English composition at New Mexico Highlands University between 2012 and 2015, Mr. Howard also served Luna Community College as an adjunct instructor of English composition from 2011 to 2014 and was a graduate teaching assistant in the department of English at New Mexico Highlands University from 2005 to 2008. Commencing his career as a publicist at the Milbrook Playhouse in 1990, he also served New Mexico Highlands University as a Michael T. Carroll lecturer in 2007 and has performed public readings of several of his books. A frequent presenter in his field, he coordinated “The Gay Writes” at the Southeastern Conference for Lesbians and Gay Men in New Orleans, LA, in 1985. Alongside his primary endeavors, he has served his community as a member of the Crescent City Coalition, the Louisiana Gay Political Action Caucus, the New Orleans Gay Men’s Chorus, the First National Gay Choral Festival, the St. Cecelia Chorus, and the Light Opera of Manhattan.

Mr. Howard is a former student of the University of the South and studied voice with Florence Morsbach and acting with Herbert Berghof in New York City. Later on, he received a Bachelor of Arts in English literature and creating writing at Hunter College in 2004 and Master of Arts in English literature at New Mexico Highlands University in 2008. He is also certified in French. The author of multiple short stories, novels and poetry, he has contributed articles to the Advocate and the Olivetree Review. His most recent book is the third edition of “Pirouettes Get No Applause in Goldengrove,” published in 2012.

As a testament to his success, Mr. Howard was selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World. A native of Jackson, TN, he enjoys swimming, drawing, singing, attending the theater and tending to his pets in his spare time.
