Jane E. Goff, Retired Teacher of Foreign Languages at Jefferson County Public School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in French language and education.
Inspired to delve into teaching by her former teachers and through the encouragement from her parents, Ms. Goff pursued formal education after high school at Colorado State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1971. Thereafter, she completed graduate coursework in counseling and administration at the University of Colorado Boulder. Subsequent to obtaining her bachelor’s degree, she served Jefferson County Public School in Golden, CO, as a teacher of foreign languages beginning in 1971. After serving the district for 25 fruitful years, she retired as an educator in 2006. During her tenure, she taught middle and high school French and English, followed by eight years in the district’s Human Resources and Learning and Achievement divisions. During the latter portion of her career, she served as the Coordinator of World Languages and the International Student Exchange for three years.
In addition to her primary responsibilities, Ms. Goff coordinated the district’s first Administrator and Teacher Performance Pay Pilots, served on the PTA Board of Directors and helped to design the Links for Learning program. Likewise, she was the first teacher graduate of Leadership Jefferson County in 1998 and served four years as vice president for education on the Jefferson Symphony Board of Directors, having notably been president of the Jefferson County Education Association from 1998 to 2000 and vice president of the Colorado Education Association from 2000 to 2006. Subsequent to her retirement from teaching, she was the former president of the National Association of State Boards of Education in 2014, having also been president-elect and western region director.
Since 2008, Ms. Goff has been elected to the Colorado State Board of Education, having held one six-year term and re-elected to a second term in 2014. She currently serves as the board’s Democratic contact to the state legislature and as the Colorado board’s representative to the governmental affairs committee of the National Association of State Boards of Education.
In light of all of her accomplishments, Ms. Goff received the Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers Friend of Foreign Languages Award in 2010 and was selected to join 23 fellow educators nationwide in the Third Annual U.S. Educators Tour of Japan. Impressively, she has also been selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women.
