Gustavo A. Chaparro-Baquero, Ph.D., Research Assistant at Florida International University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering research and education.

Delving into his current profession due to his inherent interest in computer architecture and embedded systems, Dr. Chaparro-Baquero is renowned for his nearly 20-year long career as an engineering instructor and researcher, having published 10 academic papers and presented at well-recognized conferences and symposia. Commencing his career in Colombia as an electric engineer at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in 1999, he subsequently served as a lecturer in the department of computer science and engineering at Universidad ECCI in 2003 prior to immigrating to the United States in pursuit of vocational opportunity. In 2004, he served as a researcher for Hewlett Packard in Palo Alto, CA, and then relocated to Puerto Rico, where he served as a research assistant in the College of Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez, for two years. Soon thereafter, he became an assistant professor and researcher at the Puerto Rico Energy Center at Universidad del Turabo between 2006 and 2011 before moving to Florida, where he has been serving the Florida Institute of Technology as a lecturer in the department of electrical and computer engineering since that time. In addition to his primary role, he is also a research assistant at Florida International University, a position he has fulfilled since 2012.

Highly educated, Dr. Chaparro-Baquero holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, a Master of Science in computer engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez, and a Doctor of Philosophy in electrical and electronic engineering from Florida International University. The author and co-author of nine articles to professional journals, he has maintained affiliation with Phi Kappa Phi, Delta Epsilon Iota, the Golden Key International Honour Society and the Computer Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Chaparro-Baquero has garnered multiple accolades. The recipient of the Most Collaborative Professor Award from the Universidad de Turabo chapter of the IEEE in 2009, he also received the National Award for Technology Innovation from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in 2003. Earlier, he was nominated for a Mention of Honor for Best Engineering Graduate Project from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in 2002.
