Marlene Pierce Gregor, the Director and Manager of Gregor Gallery and a Retired Teacher from Prairie-Central Community Unit #8 Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.

Driven by her love for working with children, Ms. Gregor spent decades in education. She started as a 2nd grade teacher in Wethersfield Community Unit Schools in 1953, after which she became a primary teacher at Fairbury Cropsey Schools and Prairie-Central Community Unit #8 Schools. Ms. Gregor loved seeing the children grow and become productive members of society. She was particularly pleased when her students would come back and recognize her as a stepping stone to their success; it was very rewarding. Her efforts earned her accolades like the Outstanding Teacher of Science Award and the YWCA Award for Women of Distinction, which she considers to be professional highlights.

Outside of the classroom, Ms. Gregor served her industry as an item writer for the Stanford Achievement Test Psychological Corp., a member of the science assessment team of the Illinois State Board of Education, and a grant reader for the Center for Science Literature. She was also selected by the mayor as the project manager of “Corn on the Curb” in Bloomington, Illinois, and was a member of the Children’s Museum advisory board, the Downtown Heritage Festival steering committee, and the Fell Arboretum fundraising cabinet. Her participation in these events and organizations really spurred her interest in art and led her to open Gregor Gallery in 2007. She remains there to this day as the director and manager. Notably, her work was included in the book, “Art on Parade.”

Ms. Gregor prepared for her endeavors by obtaining a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from the University of Illinois in 1953 and Master of Science in elementary education from Illinois State University in 1974. She then completed postgraduate coursework at the latter school from 1975 to 1991.
