John Patrick Nolan, Ph.D., Professor at American University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mathematics and higher education.

Interested in mathematics from a formative age, Dr. Nolan is an esteemed mathematician and educator who has been serving as a professor at American University in Washington, DC, since 1998. Alongside this prominent role, he has been the founder and president of Robust Analysis, Inc., since 2002. Prior to these appointments, he served American University in multiple capacities, including associate professor, assistant professor, and chair of the mathematics department beginning in 1989. He also acted as an assistant professor at the University of North Florida from 1986 to 1989 and Kenyon College from 1984 to 1986. He commenced his career as a lecturer at the University of Zambia in 1982.

A former software consultant for Quantitative Medicine, Inc., in Annapolis, MD, from 1987 to 1989, Dr. Nolan has contributed myriad articles to professional journals in his areas of expertise. He is currently writing a book regarding developing theories and software for mathematics programs. Instrumental in making certain models available on a global scale, he was a pioneer in transforming these models into useable content through the development of software packages.

In an effort to remain abreast of recent developments within the industry, Dr. Nolan has maintained affiliation with several professional organizations, such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Mathematical Society. Likewise, he is also a member of the Mathematical Association of America, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and the American Statistical Association.

Dr. Nolan is the recipient of a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from the University of Maryland and a Doctor of Philosophy in mathematics from the University of Virginia. He has notably been highlighted in the fourth edition of Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America and the 58th edition of Who’s Who in America, as well as multiple editions of Who’s Who in American Education and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering. He also received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.
