Margaret DeBoer Harriz, a Retired Teacher, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in gifted education.
As a child, Dr. Harriz always loved playing school with her dolls. She found learning fun, and wanted to make it fun for others. Dr. Harriz pursued that goal further when she got older. Her first position in the field was teacher in the Hershey Township Schools in Pennsylvania, followed by teacher in the West Chester Area School District. In 1967, Dr. Harriz transitioned to become a teacher and coordinator of the gifted education program at Avon Grove School District, and knew she had found her calling. She remained in the role until her retirement in 1993.
To prepare for her endeavors, Dr. Harriz earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Lock Haven State College in 1955 and a Master of Education from Widener University in 1983. She also completed a PhD ABD at Widner University, became certified as a gifted education supervisor and an elementary and secondary principal certification, and joined the National Education Association and PSEA.
