Title: Executive Coach
Location: Greendale, Wisconsin, United States
Karen Marcdante, Executive Coach, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pediatric critical care medicine and medical education.
As an executive coach in the medical field, Dr. Marcdante helps clients find their goals and reach their solutions. In some ways, she shepherds her clients to their long and short-term goals as a mentor, but is set apart from this kind of role by asking questions to guide them rather than divulging in her personal experiences. In addition to coaching, Dr. Marcdante continues to teach medical students, residents, fellows and faculty as a professor of pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Marcdante began teaching in 1983, right after completing a residency in pediatrics at the institution. Through the years she has taught and served in various roles at the medical college, such as senior associate and dean of education, chair rank and tenure committee member and associate dean of curriculum.
Dr. Marcdante first attended Marquette University before earning an MD from the Medical College of Wisconsin in1983. In 2015, she received a certificate in executive coaching at the University of California, Berkeley. Throughout her career, she has authored and contributed to numerous articles and professional journals and is currently the editor of Nelson’s Essentials of Pediatrics. Dr. Marcdante recalls her love of science developing in high school. When a teacher asked her class what they wanted to do in life she responded that she wanted to become a doctor. The teacher then told the class that 95% of them would not go on to do what they had said they wanted. If anything, this teacher inspired Dr. Marcdante further to become a doctor and later to become a coach to help people reach their own goals.
In recognition of her work, Dr. Marcdante has been a grantee of the Department of Health and Human Services and the recipient of a 2009 Distinguished Service Award. In 2004, she received a Laureate Award from the Central Group of Educational Affairs and in 1992; she was the recipient of the New Investigator Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges and a Certified Leadership Award from YWCA and the Marquette Electronics Foundation. In her career, Dr. Marcdante maintained professional affiliation with such organizations as the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics.
In the coming years, Dr. Marcdante endeavors to advance in coaching and see more clients reach their goals.
