Eldred Chicoine, School Superintendent at West Grand Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in general education administration.
Mr. Chicoine made the decision to go into education after being inspired by one of his own teachers in high school. With this in mind, he went on to lead a successful career in education that lasted for more than four decades. He was a teacher in South Dakota from 1949 until 1963. In 1963, he took on the role of superintendent for the Beresford Public Schools and remained here for nearly a decade. He spent the next decade as a superintendent of the Teller County School District RE-2. Prior to retiring, Mr. Chicoine was the superintendent of West Grand Schools from 1981 to 1992.
Set on his path at an early age, Mr. Chicoine first attended South Dakota State University to earn a Bachelor of Science in 1949. He began his teaching career that same year and remained dedicated to his own academic pursuits by returning to the institution in the late 1950s. He earned a Master of Science in 1959. Once again, Mr. Chicoine always felt that a life dedicated to learning was important upon earning an EdS from the University of South Dakota in 1971.
In addition to teaching, Mr. Chicoine served in the United States Army and received a Korean Service Medal, as well as Two Battle Stars. He has remained active with the VFW, the Colorado Association of School Executives, the American Association of School Administrators and the Lions Club. In his spare time, Mr. Chicoine enjoys participating in church activities and spending time with his family.
