Janet Burroway, Professor Emerita at Florida State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in English education.
Drawing upon more than four decades of industry experience, Ms. Burroway is a prominent figure in the field of English education, having most recently served as a Robert O. Lawton distinguished professor at Florida State University from 1995 to 2002. Prior to this illustrious role, she served the university as a McKenzie professor of English from 1986 to 1995, a professor of English from 1976 to 1986, and an associate professor of English from 1972 to 1977. She also acted as a lecturer at the University of Sussex in England from 1965 to 170. She commenced her career as an instructor in English at the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences at Binghamton University beginning in 1961.
Alongside her primary endeavors, Ms. Burroway was a visiting lecturer at the University of Iowa, a Carolyn Benton Cockefair distinguished writer-in-residence at the University of Missouri, and a teacher in American Studies at the University of Sussex. Civically, she formerly served on the board of directors for the Associate Writing Programs of America from 1987 to 1990, having been vice president from 1988 to 1989. She has maintained affiliation with the Barnard College Alumni Association and the Florida Humanities Council, who presented her with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.
The author of 17 books between 1960 and 2009, Ms. Burroway is perhaps most renowned for her book “The Buzzards,” an alternative history novel. In recognition of her exceptional contributions to the education industry, she has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and Who’s Who of American Women. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Barnard College, and a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from the University of Cambridge.
