Robert J. Viscusi, Ph.D., Professor of English at Brooklyn College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in English language and literature.

A student of Regis High School in his formative years, Dr. Viscusi received formal training in Latin, Greek and literary history, which would ultimately prepare him for his illustrious career as an educator. Receiving a Doctor of Philosophy in English and American literature from New York University in 1979, he commenced his career as an assistant professor of English at Brooklyn College the preceding year, holding that role until 1985. During this time, he was taken under the wing of Ethyle R. Wolfe, the founder of the Ethyle R. Wolfe Institute for the Humanities at Brooklyn College, who subsequently made Dr. Viscusi the director of the institute in 1980 until his retirement from the role in 2016.

Since 1985, Dr. Viscusi has also been a professor of English at Brooklyn College, where he, among his other courses, teaches the history of Italian-American literature. The former president of the Italian American Writers Association in 1991, he has contributed myriad publications to the literary world since the inception of his career, including the books “Astoria” and “Buried Caesars, and Other Secrets of Italian American Literature.” Likewise, he has penned numerous poems in anthologies and was a translation editor for “Italoamericana: The Literature of the Great Migration, 1880-1943.”

In an effort to remain abreast of recent developments within the industry, Dr. Viscusi has maintained affiliation with several organizations, such as the Century Association, PEN International, the Sons of Italy, the Modern Language Association, Phi Beta Kappa and the Grolier Club, where he served on the committee of public exhibitions in 2010.

In recognition of his exceptional achievements in higher education and literature, Dr. Viscusi received the John Fante and Pietro di Donato Literary Award from the Order Sons of Italy in American Grand Lodge of New York and the American Book Award. In addition, he was selected for inclusion in the 65th and 68th editions of Who’s Who in America, published in 2010 and 2013, respectively. In his spare time, Dr. Viscusi enjoys reading and writing.
