Deanna Morris, Special Education Tutor at Fairbanks North Star Borough School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.

With more than 50 years of professional experience, Ms. Morris has been a special education tutor for expelled students with the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District since 1993. Prior to obtaining this role, she served as a substitute teacher for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District from 1989 to 1994, and as a homebound tutor from 1987 to 1993. Earlier in her career, Ms. Morris was a mathematics teacher from 1965 to 1968. Ms. Morris was inspired to pursue an education from an early age, recognizing a need for quality teachers as some of her own instructors were not well-equipped to deal with children. She initially intended to teach history, but found that mathematics warranted more attention and she wanted to help children as much as she was able. She began her career as a student at Adams State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1964. Ms. Morris concluded her studies at Adams State University in 1965, earning a Master of Arts in secretary education, history, and mathematics.

A respected voice in her areas of expertise, Ms. Morris has been an active leader in her community. She has been an election worker for the state of Alaska, the precinct chair of the North Star Borough and the city of Fairbanks, and a census worker for the United States Census Bureau. The secretary of the Order of the Eastern Star, she has also served as treasurer of the Order of Amaranth. Likewise, Ms. Morris is an adult member and advisor for the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, as well as a grand mother of the Grand Assembly of Alaska. Throughout her career, Ms. Morris has been recognized for her contributions, including having obtained a Blue Ribbon Service Award from the Tanana Valley State Fair Association. She was honored as the State Homemaker of the Year by the Alaska Homemakers Association, and Homemaker of the Year by the Tanana Valley Homemakers. Ms. Morris has been featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in the West.
