James Arndt, Band Director at West Music Co., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.
Mr. Arndt is a longtime band director of more than three decades who is currently affiliated with the West Music Company in Coralville, Iowa. Hired in 2005, the company, which was established a storefront for the retail sale of musical instruments and repairs shortly after World War II, has since developed a rich history of providing quality service and opportunities in seven regional locations in Iowa and Illinois. Prior to joining West Music Company, Mr. Arndt excelled as the band director for Benton Community Schools in Van Horne, Iowa between 1993 and 2005.
Mr. Arndt previously served in the same capacity at Converse County Schools in Douglas, Wyo. from 1991 to 1993, Kuemper Catholic Schools in Carroll, Iowa from 1987 to 1991 and Selby Public Schools in Selby, S.D. from 1985 to 1987. During his career in music, he was a band member for the Clear Lake Municipal Band, the Jazz Vanguard Collective and the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band. Mr. Arndt also maintained involvement with the Iowa Bandmasters Association.
In 1985, Mr. Arndt obtained a Bachelor of Arts in music education from the University of Wisconsin. He later graduated from the University of Iowa, earning a Master of Arts in music education from the University of Iowa in 2004. Mr. Arndt has been certified as a teacher in Wisconsin, South Dakota and Iowa.
Outside of his career in music and education, Mr. Arndt has been active as a scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America in Blairstown, Iowa since 1993 as well as a member of his local Lions Club. He formerly served as a city councilman in Blairstown, IA, from 2001 to 2003. From 2000 to 2005, Mr. Arndt volunteered with the Blairstown ambulance service from 2000 to 2005. In light of his many achievements, Mr. Arndt has been included in the 57th and 58th editions of Who’s Who in America and eighth edition of Who’s Who in American Education.
