Richard A. Bunce, Ph.D., Undergraduate Advisor and Professor at Oklahoma State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in chemistry and higher education.
Utilizing more than 35 years of industry experience, Dr. Bunce is a prominent figure in the fields of chemistry and education, having been an undergraduate advisor and professor in the department of chemistry at Oklahoma State University for the past 20 years. Prior to this appointment, he served as an associate professor at the university from 1988 to 1998 and an assistant professor from 1983 to 1988. He commenced his career at the University of California, Berkeley, as a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow in 1981.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Bunce was a consultant for Koch Industries in Wichita, KS, from 1985 to 1988 and a visiting professor at Kerr-McGee Corporation in 1989. Throughout his career, he has contributed myriad articles to professional journals and has been serving as a guest editor for Molbank: Heterocyclic Chemistry since 2017, a collection editor for Molecules: Heterocyclic Chemistry since 2015, and a reviewer for Organic Preparations and Procedures International since 2007. Likewise, he has served on the editorial board of Heterocyclic Communications since 2005 and has been a reviewer for the American Chemical Society Journals since 1983.
Dr. Bunce holds a Bachelor of Science from Marietta College and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In an effort to remain abreast of recent developments within the industry, he has maintained affiliation with numerous organizations, such as the American Chemical Society, the Royal Society of Chemistry, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the International Society for Heterocyclic Chemistry, among others.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Bunce has been honored with several accolades. Named an Outstanding Undergraduate Advisor in 2001 and 2006, he received the Lectureship Award from Sigma Xi in 2007. In addition, he was named an Oklahoma Chemist of the Year in 2009 and was presented with the Regents Distinguished Teaching Award in 2011, the Regents Distinguished Research Award in 2012, and the Oklahoma Medal for Excellence in Teaching in 2013. Dr. Bunce has further been cited in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
