George Kateb, Ph.D., Retired Political Science Professor at Princeton University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in higher education.
From 1999 until attaining emeritus status in 2002, Dr. Kateb served as a William Nelson Cromwell professor of politics at Princeton University, having previously been a professor of politics from 1987 to 1999. Prior to these illustrious roles, he served Amherst College in myriad capacities, including as a Joseph B. Eastman professor of political science, a Kenan professor of political science, a full professor, and a faculty member between 1957 and 1987. Alongside his primary endeavors, he was a visiting lecturer at such academic institutions as Mount Holyoke College, Yale University and Harvard University.
Dr. Kateb holds a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy from Columbia University, where he was also a university fellow. After gaining prominence in the field, he received honorary doctorates from Amherst College and Princeton University in 1989 and 2008, respectively. A fellow of Harvard University from 1954 to 1957 and a Guggenheim fellow from 1971 to 1972, he has authored numerous books throughout his career, most recently including “Lincoln’s Political Thought” in 2015. He has also served on the editorial boards of the American Political Science Review and the Journal of Utopian Studies.
The former president of the New England Political Science Association, Dr. Kateb has maintained affiliation with the American Association of University Professors, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Society of Political and Legal Philosophy, where he served as vice president in the 1970s. He has additionally remained associated with the Conference for the Study of Political Thought, the American Civil Liberties Union and Phi Beta Kappa.
In recognition of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Kateb has been selected for inclusion in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in American Politics and Who’s Who in the East.
