Michele J. Wenger, Instructor at Right to Read, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education.
Inspired by her mother, Ms. Wenger has made it her mission to help others through academia. One of her main focuses is reading; she has always loved it and believes it’s a critical life skill. Ms. Wenger is also dedicated to spreading positivity. She had her students start sessions with a statement of gratefulness in the hopes that it would translate to their interactions with each other and with themselves.
Ms. Wenger first put these philosophies to use at Cincinnati Public Schools, where she worked from 1970 to 2002. Some of her roles with the school include associate, assistant principal, and principal. She also served as the director of the Right to Read Project, the project director of Minimum Competencies in Writing, and the director of Sex Desegregation. After leaving the district, Ms. Wenger worked as an instructor from 2006 to 2017. She is currently active as a tutor.
One of the most memorable moments of Ms. Wenger’s career was when she was an occupational work experience coordinator and one of her students was arrested. She was asked to speak on his behalf, and the judge said that her testimony made him reconsider passing a harsher sentence. Ms. Wenger was so proud when the student ended up graduating.
To prepare for her endeavors, Ms. Wenger earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education from the University of Cincinnati in 1969 and 1970, respectively. She then completed postgraduate studies at Xavier University, the College of Mount St. Joseph, Kent State University, and Johnson State College. Additionally, she became a certified k-12 reading specialist, elementary principal, and French and English 7-12 educator, as well as certified through The Order of Orton-Gillingham Methodology.
In her spare time, Ms. Wenger enjoys traveling and volunteering. She has lent her skills as an ambassador for the Greater Cincinnati Airport since 2008.
