Sherman D. Hanna, Professor of Consumer Sciences at Ohio State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in consumer science.
A respected member of the finance and economics community, Dr. Hanna continues to thrive at Ohio State University. He joined the institution as a professor and chairman of the Family Resource Management Department in 1986, and obtained his current role, professor of consumer sciences, in 1994. Prior to this, Dr. Hanna garnered experience as an assistant professor, associate professor, professor, and acting department head at Kansas State University, and as an assistant professor at both Auburn University and Southern Illinois University. One of his favorite parts of the job is working with graduate students. He takes great pride in being part of their success stories by helping them develop into good researchers and teachers.
Outside of the school, Dr. Hanna has found writing to be a highly effective way of reaching his peers. He was the founding editor of the Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning, the associate editor of Financial Planning Review, and the author of “Housing, Society and Consumers.” He remains on the editorial boards of the Journal of Consumer Affairs and the Journal of Family and Economic Issues to this day.
Dr. Hanna prepared for his endeavors by earning a PhD in consumer economics from Cornell University in 1974 and a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1968. He then joined prominent professional organizations like the American Council on Consumer Interests and the American Economic Association.
