David Alan Collier, Ph.D., Management Educator at Florida Gulf Coast University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in management education.
Specializing in operations management, service operations, quality management and logistics, Dr. Collier is a prominent figure in the field of management education, having served in the industry for 45 years. Most recently serving as chair of operations management and an Alico Eminent Scholar at Florida Gulf Coast University from 2007 until his retirement in 2017, he previously held prestigious roles with several other academic institutions, including the Ohio State University, the University of Virginia, and Duke University. He commenced his career as a materials manager with Babcock & Wilcox Company in 1972.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Collier was a consultant for numerous corporate executive programs between 1978 and 2017, and he was also a member of the board of examiners of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 1991 and 1992. A veteran of the United States Air Force National Guard, he has maintained affiliation with the American Society for Quality Control, the Production and Operations Management Society and Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
Dr. Collier holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Kentucky, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy from the Ohio State University. The author of several books and more than 80 articles in professional journals, he has been read more than 7,000 times and cited more than 3,000 times throughout the course of his career. As a testament to his profound success, he was named an Ameritech Faculty Fellow and University of Warwick Visiting Faculty Fellow in 1989 and 1995, respectively.
