William G. Rothstein, Ph.D., Professor of Sociology Emeritus at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in sociology and higher education.
Drawing upon nearly five decades of experience, Dr. Rothstein is a distinguished educator who most recently served as a professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, from 1988 to 2013, when he ultimately attained emeritus status. Prior to this appointment, he served as an assistant to associate professor at the university between 1966 and 1988. He commenced his career as a research analyst with Prudential Financial, Inc., in Newark, NJ, from 1964 to 1966.
Dr. Rothstein holds a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Master of Arts from the University of Minnesota, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Cornell University. A member of the American Association for the History of Medicine, he is a prolific author, having penned five books throughout his career, including “The Coronary Heart Disease Pandemic in the 20th Century: Emergence and Decline in Advanced Countries” in 2018, “Public Health and The Risk Factor” in 2003, and “American Physicians in the 19th Century” in 1972.
Dr. Rothstein became involved in his profession because he was intrigued by working with students, particularly students from overseas who traveled to the United States for an education. He enjoyed learning about other countries, their cultures, and their customs from these students, as he analyzed these experiences from a sociological standpoint.
