John Samuel Faulkner, Ph.D., Physicist and Professor Emeritus at Florida Atlantic University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in physics and higher education.

Drawing upon nearly 60 years of professional experience, Dr. Faulkner is a celebrated physicist and educator who has been serving as the co-director of the Center for Biomedical and Materials Physics at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL, since 1988. During this prestigious position, he was a professor in the department of physics at the university for 18 years, reaching emeritus status in 2004. Prior to these prominent roles, he was the head of the Theory Group, Metals and Ceramics Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee for 24 years and an assistant professor at the University of Florida for three years.

Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Faulkner was a visiting scientist at Forschungszentrum Jülich in the Federal Republic of Germany from 1985 to 1986 and a visiting professor at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom from 1976 to 1977. He has also been a frequent speaker in his field. The author of “The Sparrow,” published in 2012, he has contributed myriad articles to professional journals throughout his career, as well as various reviews. Although he is retired, he still conducts research in his area of expertise, teaches, and writes new material.

To prepare for his illustrious career, Dr. Faulkner pursued formal education at Auburn University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in 1954 and 1955, respectively. A DuPont Postgraduate Fellow of the Ohio State University from 1958 to 1959, he subsequently received a Doctor of Philosophy from the institution in 1959. He has since received fellowships from the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

As a testament to his professional success, Dr. Faulkner has accrued several accolades. A Senior Fulbright Scholar at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom from 1968 to 1969, he was named Best Sustained Researcher by the U.S. Department of Energy in 1982. Most recently, he was named an Outstanding Referee by the editors of the American Physical Society Journal in 2008. Notably, he has been highlighted in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, as well as the 22nd and 23rd editions of Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.
