Janice Carol Berg, Reading Specialist at Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in elementary education.
Demonstrating more than four decades of professional excellence, Ms. Berg is an eminent and versatile educator who most recently served as a reading specialist at the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District in Foxburg, PA, from 1996 to 2017. Prior to this appointment, she was a reading specialist at the Punxsutawney Area School District, a position she held in 1994. Serving as a first grade teacher at the Seoul Foreign School District in the Republic of Korea for two years, she commenced her career as a third grade teacher at the Brookville Area School District beginning in 1975. Alongside her primary endeavors, she additionally served as a private tutor and substitute teacher in the 1990s.
To prepare for her illustrious career, Ms. Berg earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Slippery Rock University in 1975 and later received a Master of Education from the university in 1987. A certified elementary school teacher in the State of Pennsylvania, she has been certified as a reading specialist by Clarion University in 1994 and in early childhood education by Slippery Rock University in 1995.
Among the highlights of her career, Ms. Berg recalls the time she spent in the Republic of Korea to be the most notable aspect of her career. She says that although there was a language barrier, she considers it to have been a wonderful experience. A former member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and Allegheny-Clarion Valley Education Association, she served on the conference membership committee of the Keystone State Reading Association in 2002. The proud mother of two children and two grandchildren, she enjoys swimming, hiking, bicycling, reading and playing table tennis in her spare time.
