Steven Goldberg, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the City College of New York, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in sociology and higher education.
Drawing upon more than 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Goldberg is a revered sociologist whose commentary on biological differences between men and women and the patriarchy have accrued much acclaim since the publication of his best-selling book, “The Inevitability of the Patriarchy,” in 1978. The book, which discusses the psychophysiological makeup of men when compared to women, proposes that the patriarchy may be biologically based and would be an inevitable conclusion in modern day society due to the universality of the impact of testosterone on male behavior. Dr. Goldberg offers the perspective that one of the few ways to prevent the patriarchy from reaching its zenith would be to intervene biologically on the male physiology, such as in the case of genetic engineering.
In 1993, Dr. Goldberg published a revised version of his book under the title “Why Men Rule,” which refines his argument and shifts focus from citing anthropological case studies from across the globe to demonstrating evidence from the workforce in contemporary western societies. Additional books he has published since stepping into the limelight have included “When Wish Replaces Thought,” “Fads and Fallacies in the Social Sciences,” and “Mathematical Elegance.” He has further contributed myriad articles to esteemed professional journals, such as the Yale Review, the American Anthropologist Society, the American Journal of Physics, and the International Journal of Sociology.
Dr. Goldberg was the former professor of sociology at the City College of New York. Beginning his tenure in 1974, he also served as chairman of the department of sociology at the college from 1985 until his retirement from the industry in 2005, when he ultimately reached emeritus status. Previously enlisting in the United States Marine Corps from 1963 to 1969, he holds a Bachelor of Arts from Ricker College, a Master of Arts from the University of New Brunswick, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the City College of New York.
As a testament to his professional success, Dr. Goldberg has been listed in the 21st edition of Who’s Who in the East and the first edition of Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America. His books have received glowing reviews from the likes of Charles Murray, a best-selling author; Dr. William M. Briggs, a mathematical statistician; and Catherine Hakim, a senior research fellow at the London School of Economics.
