William Curtis, Psychology Professor at Camden County College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of psychological education.
An educator and a private mental health care practitioner, Dr. Curtis has improved the lives of hundreds of students and clients. He has served as a charter faculty member and professor of psychology and sociology for Camden County College in Blackwood, NJ, since 1967 as well as privately practicing as a clinical psychologist in Philadelphia since 1966. While in highs school, Dr. Curtis observed people with emotional problems not receive help and decided he would enter a field that allowed him to help others. In preparation for his career, Dr. Curtis earned a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Saint Mary’s College in 1961 and a Bachelor of Sacred Theology from the same institution in 1963. He earned a Master of Education from Loyola College in 1964, a doctoral degree equivalent from Catholic University in 1966, a Doctor of Philosophy from Walden University in 1975 and served as a clinical behavior therapy trainee for the Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute from 1975 to 1976. True to his nature of kindness and compassion, Dr. Curtis plans to spend time during his retirement volunteering with depressed and suicidal veterans in order to help them feel better.
Dr. Curtis considers the highlight of his career to be when he receives positive feedback from his students who have told him that his courses have allowed them to excel in mental health studies. An understanding, empathetic teacher, he allows his students to take exams at their convenience, allowing people with commitments outside of his class to complete their responsibilities while still learning essential material. Bettering any organization with which he is affiliated, Dr. Curtis holds membership with numerous organizations such as the American Psychological Association, the Greater Philadelphia Society of Clinical Hypnosis and the Society for the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick, among others. He has been lauded with multiple awards such as the Commencement Grand Marshall for Camden County College since 2006 due to his role as a founding Camden County faculty member in 1967 and has achieved Papal Knighthood with Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre on Oct. 19, 2017. In recognition of his notoriety, Dr. Curtis has been presented with The Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who’s Who in the East.
