Joseph Martin, Teacher, Investor and Official at JM Investments, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in teaching and sports.
Mr. Martin is a successful businessman, educator and entrepreneur. His success and expertise is due to the hard work that began at a young age. At age 16, he started officiating and built his businesses over several years. Presently, he officiates six sports, five of them NCAA, and five are certified high school varsity. He has worked Division I games in soccer and softball. Referee Magazine published a study that surveyed the number of sports officiated and percentage nationwide. Officiating 5+ sports puts you in the top 2% of the nation.
In college, he majored in Business Management. He was a member of (Phi Sigma Kappa), elected Vice-President and President of Student Government and was Chairman of his fraternity’s 24-hour softball marathon. The marathon was a fundraiser for The Valerie Fund for Cancer. The New York football team the Giants donated $1,000 and Channel 4 did an interview. It was one of the moments he is most proud of. Upon graduation, he was hired at Xerox Corporation in Customer Service/ Inside Sales. He earned both Par Club, President’s Club and Gold Club for outstanding service and perfect attendance. President’s Club was a trip to Cancun, Mexico.
At Temple, he had several internships. He was Fundraising Chairman for the Philadelphia Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball Tournament, worked at a Division III University in their athletic department, the USTA (United States Tennis Association in ticketing/marketing), and the Philadelphia 76ers in sports information. He had the honor of working for Harvey Pollack while working for the Philadelphia 76ers. As a teacher, he earned certification in K-8 Elementary, Teacher of Student’s with Disabilities, Principal/Supervisor, Highly Qualified in Mathematics and Driver Education. He taught levels K-16.
As an Administrator, he was a High School Athletic Director of an all-girls Catholic School. They had six sports and a volunteer coaching staff. Their teams qualified for the state tournament. The softball and volleyball teams advanced in the state tournament. Volleyball won the Prep Tournament. A cross-country runner won counties. As a Coach, he worked all levels from 4th grade through college. He was Head Coach of a 5th and 6th-grade boy’s basketball CYO team that won the Paterson Diocese. He was a Head Division III Softball Coach and a Division I Assistant. He worked with several pitching coaches. Most notably, Frank Bolton and Starmaker. He gave pitching and hitting lessons for 10 years. He was an instructor at Division I Softball Camps. Accomplishments as an official include attending over 100 camps and showcases. They include the NBA, MLB, SEC, ACC and several other Division I conferences. He was invited to ASA 16 Gold, Invitation Only Camps, worked games in the EYBL, West 4th Street and AAU Nationals.
He worked the high school state finals in baseball (plate) in 2016, Sectional Semi-Finals/ Soccer, Group Semi-Finals/ Basketball, County Semi-Finals/ Softball and in Volleyball He received post-season assignments in the NCAA in Soccer (Region 19 Finals, and Conference play) and Softball (Region 19 Semi-Finals and Conference play). He was elected Vice-President of his high school baseball chapter. He is a certified mediator, was Commissioner of Babe Ruth Softball, an altar boy until age 18, real estate license and Assignor of Umpires for a college baseball summer league. Last but not least, he works several jobs. They are Property Manager, Adjunct Professor for Physical Education and Health, Wine Distributor, Daytrader, Contracting (WG Contracting) and Officiating. The contracting business helps put people to work that have had a tough life and gives them a second chance. He would like to grow these businesses, work with Students with Disabilities and work a Division I schedule.
