Ellen Hoyt, Artist and Educator at El Art Studio, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the fields of art and education.
With 55 years of professional experience, Ms. Hoyt is an acclaimed and passionate watercolor painter and educator who has been serving as an art teacher at El Art Studio in Brooklyn, NY, since 1984. Prior to this prominent role, she was an art teacher at Studio Dragonette and Kingsway Academy between 1963 and 1984. A frequent art demonstrator, lecturer and teacher in the field, she also previously held the role of art juror and art consultant in Brooklyn and New York City, and she spends her spare time volunteering as the director of the Salt Marsh Nature Center.
Throughout her career, Ms. Hoyt has been featured in permanent collections across the state of New York, including in the Williamsburg Historical Society, Coney Island Hospital, Z Space Gallery, St. Francis College, the Bay Ridge Festival of Arts and Gateway National Park, among others. Likewise, she has also been showcased in multiple group exhibitions in Washington Square in New York City, Shakespeare’s Garden Gallery, the Dag Hammarskjöld Tower Condominium, the Library at Cornell Medical Center, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, Brooklyn Museum, the Metropolitan Museum and the Salmagundi Club. She has further held a number of one-woman shows.
The founder of the Brooklyn Watercolor Society, Ms. Hoyt has accrued several accolades in recognition of her contributions to the art world. She has won First Place in the Plainfield Annual Art Show in 2000, the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit (WSOAE) Landscape Award in 1990, and the Best in Show Award from the Brooklyn Museum in 1983. Likewise, the WSOAE gave her an Ed Whitney Scholarship Award in 1979 and a Professional Woman’s Club Award in 1980, and she was deemed a Scholar of the organization from 1979 to 2004. Notably, she has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the East and Who’s Who of American Women.
