Patricia Dennis, Elementary Education Educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of elementary education.
Dedicated to illuminating the minds of the young, Ms. Dennis has spent her career as an elementary education educator. She has held many positions within the education field including, but not limited to, instructor of continuing education for Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, KS, from 1999 to 2010 and the library media specialist for Washington Elementary School in Olathe, KS, from 1977 to 1999. Ms. Dennis has also taught at multiple schools, including Fairview Elementary School, Trinity Christian Day School and Edgewood Academy. Her husband, Norman Bryan Dennis, Jr., had been in the military, so Ms. Dennis spent time teaching at various schools. She has taught at the Goose Air Force Base Dependent School in Canada, the Gladden Elementary School at the Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, McDonald Elementary School at the K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base and the Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines, all from 1957 to 1971. In recognition of her success, Ms. Dennis has been awarded the Kansas Master Teacher Award from 1985 to 1988 and the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award from the George Peabody College.
In preparation to teach others, Ms. Dennis received her own education at multiple institutions. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from George Peabody College in 1955, a Master of Arts from the University of Missouri in 1977 and has completed coursework at Auburn University, the University of Kansas and the University of Missouri. She knew she wanted to teach elementary education since her sophomore year of college and greatly enjoys working with children, consistently teaching with honesty, care and attentive listening. Bettering any organization with which she has been affiliated, Ms. Dennis holds membership with organizations such as the Philanthropic Educational Organization, the Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota and has previously held membership with Alpha Delta Kappa, the Kansas Association of School Librarians, National Education Association and the Kansas Reading Association. She has lent her time and talents to various groups, including the Kansas State Reading Circle Commission and the Village Presbyterian Church among others. In recognition of her success, Ms. Dennis has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the Midwest, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women.
