Berta Ulm, Elementary School Educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in elementary education.
For more than three decades, Ms. Ulm has seen what the effects of good education can have on students. Stemming from an early passion for education during her own elementary education, Ms. Ulm would take what she learned in school and teach it to her younger sister. Seeing the success of her younger sibling resulted in a drive to help others in their academic pursuits. Ms. Ulm reflects on one of her career highlights, which has been teaching a student with a learning disability when he was in her fifth-grade class. She recently learned that despite his disability and through the hard work of her teaching, he has since graduated from Georgia Tech.
In pursuit of becoming a teacher, Ms. Ulm first earned an AS in elementary education from Albany Junior College in 1978. She continued at Albany State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science a year later. A few years later, she continued her pursuits by earning an MS in mid-grades education from Georgia Southwestern State University in 1982. In 1995, she became an educational specialist in middle grades mathematics and science from Georgia Southwestern State University. Ms. Ulm is certified in pre-k to eighth-grade education. She retired in 2006 after teaching at Worth County Middle School for nearly two decades and at Holley Elementary School for the first decade of her career.
