Domnita Dumitrescu, Ph.D., Spanish Language Educator and Researcher at California State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Spanish language and education.
Amassing more than four decades of professional experience, Dr. Dumitrescu is a prominent educator who specializes in the Spanish language. After she graduated from high school, she attended the University of Bucharest in Romania, which opened its first program in Hispanic studies to develop language specialists who would be able to communicate with their sister country, Cuba. Earning a Diploma in Spanish language and literature from the university in 1966, she went on to attend the University of Southern California, where she received a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in Spanish and linguistics in 1987 and 1990, respectively.
Since 2016, Dr. Dumitrescu has been a professor emerita at California State University, Los Angeles, having previously worked as a professor of Spanish from 1995 to 2016, associate professor of Spanish from 1990 to 1994, and assistant professor of Spanish from 1987 to 1990. Prior to these illustrious appointments, she was an associate professor and assistant professor at the University of Bucharest between 1966 and 1984.
A prolific author, Dr. Dumitrescu has penned myriad articles to professional journals and served as an editorial board member to several journals related to the Spanish language. Most recently authoring “Roles Situacionales, Interculturalidad y Multiculturalidad en Encuentros en Español” with Diana Brava in 2016, which was published through the North American Academy of the Spanish Language, she also edited “The Learning of Spanish Pragmatics: From Research to Practice” with Patricia Andueza in 2018. In addition, she has translated numerous texts from Spanish to Romanian and has been a book and media review editor of “Hispania” since 2011.
In recognition of her exceptional contributions to language and higher education, Dr. Dumitrescu won the President’s Distinguished Professor Award in 2007 and 2008, the Outstanding Professor Award from California State University, Los Angeles, in 2003 and 2004, and the Teacher of the Year Award from the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese in 2000. Notably, she has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women.
