Maria M. Tsoukas, MD, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Dermatologist at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in dermatology and higher education.

Dr. Tsoukas, an accomplished dermatologist with more than two decades of experience, has been serving as an associate professor, residency program director and department head at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine since 2014. Her clinical interests include Photodynamic Therapy, skin cancer and field therapies, high risk skin cancer patients, cutaneous oncology, laser surgery and aesthetic dermatology, and skin rejuvenation such as injectable Botox and fillers. She has conducted extensive research in photobiology and photodynamic therapy, laser tissue interactions and drug delivery, field cancerization therapies, and tissue repair. In addition, as part of the administrative team at the university, she specializes in curriculum development and quality improvement in medical education.

Receiving a broad education, Dr. Tsoukas earned her Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Athens in 1992 and 2002, respectively. She completed a research fellowship in dermatology at Harvard Medical School, internship in medicine at Tufts Medical School, residency in dermatology at Roger Williams Medical Center in affiliation with Boston University, and chief residency in dermatology at Dartmouth Medical School, where she also served as a clinical fellow in cosmetic and surgical dermatology. She has been certified to practice medicine by the American Board of Dermatology.

Dr. Tsoukas has accrued several awards throughout her career in recognition of her outstanding contributions to medicine. She has been named a Top Dermatologist in America since 2011 and won the Faculty of the Year Award from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine in 2015. In addition, she was a grantee by the American Society for Dermatological Surgery. The recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017, she has been highlighted in the 61st and 62nd editions of Who’s Who in America.
