Robert L. Zorn, Director of the Graduate School at Westminster College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in school administration.

Hardworking and dedicated, Dr. Zorn is proud of his career in school administration and leadership, which he had dreamed of since second grade. He started by building experience in academia as a teacher in the West Branch Local School District, an elementary school principal of Poland Local Schools in Ohio, and principal of the High School Unit of the Mahoning County Educational Service Center. In 1970, Dr. Zorn moved closer to his goal when he was promoted to assistant superintendent of the Mahoning County Educational Service Center, and in 1976, he finally became the superintendent of schools for Poland Local Schools. He remained in that position until 2012. During that time, he also served as adjunct faculty at Westminster College. He now serves the institution as the director of the graduate school.

Outside of academia, Dr. Zorn has been very active as an author. Most recently, in 2017, he wrote “A New Generation of Graduate Students – The Z Generation,” for College and University, and “Getting the Best Principals for Your School District” for the American School Boards Journal. Other notable publications include “Westminster College through Time” for Fonthill Media, “The Keys to Longevity as a School Superintendent” for the Ohio School Board Association in School Management Newsletter, “Innovative Programs: Westminster College’s Graduate School Goes Blended Learning” for the University Council for Educational Administration, “Exiting Gracefully: Transition Advice” for AASA School Administrator,  and “Images of America: Poland.” He also wrote two editions of “Speed Reading” and three of “Triumph and Tradition: A History of the Poland Schools.”

To prepare for his endeavors, Dr. Zorn earned a Bachelor of Science in education from Kent State University in 1959, a Master of Education from Westminster College in 1964, and a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh in 1970. He kept up with developments in his field through postdoctoral work in education administration at the National Academy for School Executives and Harvard University. Between 1959 and 1961, he was a lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

In recognition of his efforts, Dr. Zorn was honored with the Outstanding Achievement Award and the 12th Man Award from Poland Local Schools in 2012, a Certificate of Recognition from Poland Township Trustees in 2010, and the Community Builders Award from the Poland Masonic Lodge in 2000. He was also recognized as Grand Parade Marshall of Poland, Ohio, and by the Hall of Fame of the Poland Community Baseball Association, and was named Superintendent of the Year by the Ohio Parent Teacher Association in 1990. The highlight of his career, however, was giving high school diplomas to his own daughters and grandchildren, and college degrees to two of his grandchildren.
