Professor Francis E. Hamilton, Management Educator at Eckerd College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in management and higher education.
Dr. Hamilton is an associate professor of management at Eckerd College, a role he has fulfilled since 2009. With research interests that include leadership development, grassroots organizational creation and development, public management, social entrepreneurship, and the creation of shared values, among others, he teaches such courses as Principles of Management and Leadership, Principles of Entrepreneurship, Leadership in Complex Organizations, and Social Entrepreneurship. Prior to this position, he also served Eckerd College as an assistant professor of management for five years.
Previously, Dr. Hamilton was an adjunct professor of business at the University of Southern Florida from 1998 to 2005 and in 2011, a consultant for Drake Beam Morin in 1997, the director of branch development with the First American Investment Banking Corporation from 1996 to 1997, and founder and managing partner of Total Employment Company from 1995 to 1996. He commenced his career as a Sale Carnegie sales associate at Scott Hitchcock and Associates from 1993 to 1995.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Hamilton has participated in a number of civic engagements and has acted out on behalf of his passion for animal rights. The president, chief executive officer and co-founder of Animal Coalition Tampa, Inc., since 2001, he also served on the institutional animal care and use committee at Sanford-Brown College for three years, was on the science board of advisors for Alley Cat Allies for 11 years, was on the board of directors of the animal advisory committee in Hillsborough County for eight years, and was the co-founder and vice president of No More Homeless Pets in Hillsborough County for five years. He also served the Boy Scouts of America on the board of directors of the Gulf Ridge Council for seven years and the Brandon Chamber of Commerce on the board of directors for three years.
Dr. Hamilton has contributed a number of articles to peer-reviewed journals and published 13 conference proceedings. He maintains membership with numerous professional organizations, including the Academy of Management, the American Sociological Association, the International Leadership Association, the Animals and Society Institute, and the Management and Organizational Behavior Teaching Society, among others. In addition, he has traveled the world as a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army for 22 years.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions to education and management, Dr. Hamilton has accrued several accolades during his impressive career. The winner of the John Satterfield Outstanding Mentor Award from Eckerd College in 2016 and 2017, he was a grantee of the Human Animal Studies Fellowship from Michigan State University in 2008. In addition, he was honored with the Emerald Management Citations of Excellence in 2006 and was named Scholastic Honorary Faculty Advisor of the Year by the University of South Florida in 2003 and 2004. A member of Omicron Delta Kappa in 2002, he was inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society in 1999.
