Richard Lester, MD, Professor Emeritus of the Eastern Virginia Medical School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Healthcare and Medicine.

With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Lester has been recognized as a professor emeritus of Eastern Virginia Medical School since 1993, having been a professor of radiology since 1984. In addition to his primary roles, he was chair of the department from 1989 to 1991, and dean from 1984 to 1989. He has also lent his experience to the Medical College of Hampton Roads, the University of Texas Medical School of Houston, Meharry Medical College, the Duke School of Medicine, the Medical College of Virginia, and the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Lester began his career as a student at Princeton University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1946. He subsequently studied at Columbia University, earning a Doctor of Medicine in 1948. He then joined New York City Hospital for an internship until 1949, followed by residencies in radiology with Stanford Medical School from 1950 to 1951 and from 1953 to 1954. In 1993, Dr. Lester received a Doctor of Humane Letters from Meharry Medical College. Furthermore, he served on the Board of Trustees for Meharry Medica College and was the seventh president of the institution.
