Title: Psychologist (Retired), Professor Emeritus
Company: Université Laval
Location: Quebec, Canada
Janel Gauthier, Retired Psychologist and Professor Emeritus at Université Laval, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychology.
Interested in studying human behavior since he discovered a book on psychology in his school’s library, Dr. Gauthier never lost sight of his goal. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a Master of Science in psychology from Université Laval in 1971 and 1972, respectively, and a PhD in clinical psychology from Queen’s University in 1975. He also became a licensed psychologist through the College of Psychologists of Quebec. The degrees propelled him to various research positions, and after a while, he decided adding clinical work was only natural. Dr. Gauthier spent three years in this capacity before going into academia. He now serves the Université Laval as a professor emeritus.
One of the highlights of Dr. Gauthier’s career was leading an international initiative in 2002 that ended up with the adoption of a document called The Universal Declaration of Ethical Principles for Psychologists. Dr. Gauthier was responsible for drafting much of the document and submitting the proposal. The work was sponsored by the International Association of Applied Psychology and the International Union of Psychological Science.
