Margaret Wheltle, retired chair of the religion department at the Mount de Sales Academy, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Theology.
With more than 25 years of professional experience, Ms. Wheltle retired as chair of the religion department at Mount de Sales Academy in 1985, having held the positions since 1979. In addition to her primary role, she was a lecturer of theology from 1978 to 1985, and a trustee from 1979 to 1982. Prior to joining the school, she was with the St. Agnes Roman Catholic Congregation, Inc., (now St. Agnes Catholic Church and St. William of York Catholic Church) as a coordinator of religious education from 1971 to 1974. Earlier in her career, Ms. Wheltle was director of development, television production coordinator, and assistant to the president of Mount St. Agnes College from 1964 to 1967.
Initially pursuing a career in the legal industry, Ms. Wheltle began her career as a student at Mt. St. Agnes College, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1959. She continued her studies at the University of Maryland, earning a Juris Doctor in 1959 and serving as an associate with Harley Wheltle Victor and Rosser until 1964. While working in law, she completed postgraduate work with Loyola Evening College (Loyola University Maryland) and with the Catholic University of America. After changing career paths to religion and theology, Ms. Wheltle earned a Master of Sacred Theology with St. Mary’s Seminary & University in 1972.
