Janet Barbara McKelway, Retired Music Educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.
A former organist and associate music director at the Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon in Pittsburgh, PA, for 23 years, Ms. McKelway amassed more than 50 years of professional experience in her field prior to her retirement in 2015. Previously, she was an elementary vocal music teacher at the Hampton Township School District from 1968 to 1997, an organist and choir director at Trinity Lutheran Church from 1972 to 1992, an organist at Bakerstown Presbyterian Church from 1965 to 1972, and a music teacher at Carlynton School District from 1965 to 1968. She commenced her career as a vocal music teacher and piano teacher at the El Salam School for Girls in Asyut, Egypt, from 1961 to 1965.
To prepare for her celebrated career, Ms. McKelway pursued an education at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts in music performance and Bachelor of Fine Arts in music education in 1961. She concluded her education at Carnegie Mellon University, earning a Master of Fine Arts in music education in 1970.
In recognition of her exceptional contributions to music education, Ms. McKelway accrued several accolades throughout her impressive career. She was the recipient of the Volunteer in Arts Award from the Dominion Foundation in 2003. In addition, she was selected for inclusion in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Entertainment, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who of American Women.
